Former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan Quits Congress and MLA's Post: A Political Shake-Up

Breaking News: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has made a momentous decision. He has tendered his resignation from the Congress party, along with stepping down from his MLA position. This move signals a seismic shift in the state’s political landscape.

Chavan’s succinct resignation letter, addressed to Congress state committee chief Nana Patole, reads, “I am resigning from the Congress party.”

Earlier today, Chavan met with state legislative assembly speaker Rahul Narvekar to formally submit his resignation as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the 85-Bhokar Assembly Constituency.

Speculation is rife that Chavan may soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena leader, expressed disbelief over Chavan’s departure, drawing parallels with recent political realignments. The question on everyone’s mind: Will Chavan stake a claim to the party symbol, as others have done before him?

Rohit Pawar, NCP MLA, reflects on the trend of senior leaders forsaking their established political ideologies in pursuit of new alliances. He emphasizes the critical battle for identity and ideology, which he believes ultimately rests with the common people.

Chavan’s political journey has been a rollercoaster ride—from serving as Chief Minister in 2008 to losing his Lok Sabha seat in 2019. As the son of former CM Shankarrao Chavan, he has represented Nanded in the Lok Sabha. In 2015, he was appointed Congress state president. However, the 2019 elections saw him lose Nanded to the BJP.
