Historical Background:

In 1997, Pramukh Swami Maharaj envisioned the mandir, and in 2015, the UAE government generously provided 27 acres of land, a gift from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Legal status was granted in September 2019, and construction commenced in December 2019, using pink sandstone from Rajasthan and marble from Italy. Over 200 volunteers dedicated over 690,000 hours, representing a global collaboration.

Symbol of Unity:

The mandir symbolizes interfaith harmony, incorporating stories not only from Hindu scriptures but also tales from diverse civilizations. It houses deities like Swaminarayan, Akshar-Purushottam, Radha-Krishna, and others, fostering understanding and unity among people of different religious backgrounds.

Architectural Marvel:

Standing at 108 feet tall, 262 feet in length, and 180 feet in width, the mandir boasts two domes, seven spires, and intricate marble carvings against a sandstone backdrop. The 'Dome of Harmony' represents the five natural elements, and the design includes environmental-friendly features, like recycled wooden pallets and a waterfall symbolizing the holy rivers.

Volunteer Participation:

Over 200 volunteers from diverse backgrounds played a crucial role in construction, showcasing the spirit of devotion and spirituality. Children actively participated, contributing to the creation of stone artifacts as a symbol of harmony.

Interfaith and Cultural Harmony:

Recognizing the UAE's initiative for cultural diversity and peace, the government awarded legal status to the mandir. Carvings include animals native to the UAE and depictions of parables from various civilizations, fostering global harmony.

Inauguration and Global Harmony Ritual:

The Festival of Harmony commenced on 10 February 2024, featuring the 'Yagna for Harmony' on 11 February, a first-of-its-kind global harmony ritual. The consecration ceremony on 14 February was led by Mahant Swami Maharaj, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the public dedication assembly. The mandir opens its doors to the public on 18 February 2024.

The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi is not merely a place of worship but a beacon of unity, tolerance, and shared humanity. Its grand inauguration marks a historic moment in the journey towards cultural harmony and global understanding.
